Make Your Own Bird Feeder
Here are two Plastic Bottle Bird Feeders from the US Fish & Wildlife Service. They have free plans and written instructions for a Thistle Seed Feeder and a Sunflower Seed Feeder. The Sunflower Bird Feeder requires three 2-liter soda bottles , a 7 inch dessert topping lid, a baby food jar lid, some wire, a screw and some all weather rubber sealant. The Thistle Bird Feeder requires a 1 liter plastic soft drink bottle, 3 or 4 wooden dowels, some wire and a metal eye screw. Sunflower seeds attract chickadees, nuthaches and cardinals, where as, Thistle seeds attract goldfinches, pine siskins and redpolls.

This Covered Hanging Platform Bird Feeder is attached to a "Trolley" and allows you to move the feeder around. So once the birds get used to the feeder you can move it closer to your window to better see them. This bird feeder idea is great however the plan is a bit sparce and you have to do some ad libbing.
