Another really good plan comes from Georgia-Pacific. This single cup plan is l-shaped and is 12 feet long. They have a great materials and cutting list with good diagrams and a finished project picture. There are also 8 steps of written instructions.
Finally if you would rather have an attractive outdoor putting green Popular Mechanics Magazine has a good plan for that. They give you 7 layout ideas with 5 holes. For the subsurface they recommend concrete or asphalt. Then you cover that with synthetic turf. The article has good diagrams and written instructions.
